I can say that despite all the crap I've had to tolerate with my own cancer, your sad stories about the way your parents in particularly have treated you and your family (and long before your diagnosis too) remind me how good my relatives and friends have been to me. And to be thankful for that.

I'm glad you have other people who are your real, supportive family, and I know sharing your stories with the rest of us has certainly been helpful — even if I couldn't always read them in full because descriptions of chemo bring on my nausea surprisingly easily these days. I hope the tales of my experiences (and others') have helped you in some way too.

I'm also glad you're not keeping the vitriol from your parents under wraps, as so many would do. It helps everyone see what's happening, and has them hoist by their own petard too.

As for my honesty, I think we'd all be happier if we were more open and honest about our challenges and, while I've always aimed for authenticity and transparency, my diagnosis has really made sharing our common human frailties a top priority for me. I do hope it helps others — being authentic and transparent definitely helps me.
