Build Me Up

Radiation one, of thirty, is in the can.

Today’s session included thirty minutes of perfect stillness:

Ten minutes of positioning. Five of X-rays. Five for examination of X-rays and the actual radiation treatment, the remainder.

The toughest part was the juxtaposing music.

The three songs that played during the actual treatment (“Brown Eyed Girl”, “Build Me Up Buttercup”, and “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown”) brought to mind vivid, evocative memories from various corners of my life.

Try staying perfectly still with this going through your head:

Way to go Andrea! I was thinking of you all day yesterday! They will go by fast and then this part of your recovery will be over. Owen & I enjoyed watching the “buttercup” video, thanks for posting.

  • I wouldn't have been able to sit still. I think I would have had “Sounds and Songs of the Humpback Whale” playing instead! But then again, it is possible that I might have wanted to splash around in the air! I hope the radiation is much lighter on you than the chemo. Stay well!

  • Ya, I'm thinking the music is for the two technicians rather than for the patients. But I enjoy it.

Thank you for your good wishes, Ginny. Radiation is supposed to be a breeze compared to chemo. I wasn't impressed about all the weeping skin talk yesterday but I've been dosing myself up with glaxan and calendula creams in hopes that I can keep my current skin healthy and in place long enough for some new skin to actually grow in underneath. They say the sunburn symptoms are unavoidable but I'd love to squeeze by with as mild a problem as possible.

  • Thank you, Caroline. Lucy and Bayla enjoyed the video too.

I don't think I've ever been perfectly still for five minutes in my life! And with THOSE songs playing, I know my feet would have been moving.

Glad your first treatment is history!
