Andrea- What beautiful thoughts, and I'm glad you've been able to see that JOMB has affected lots of people. One of my favorite “sort-of pop culture” stories is of a boy on a beach who's picking up stranded starfish when an old man comes along. “There's thousands and thousands of them,” the old man says. “You can't possibly save them all–what you're doing doesn't matter.” The boy picks up a single starfish and tosses it into the water. “Well, it matters to that one,” he says.

It's impossible to know the full effect of something like JOMB, or writing and illustrating a book. As you said, your audience is quiet. You don't often hear back. But when you do, it's often an impassioned response because what you've done has mattered to that person.

Wow Andrea, that was wonderful

The first thing that came to my mind was, “Wow!” Then the tears began to well up. Your words were such an encouragement to me, also a survivor of breast cancer and an illustrator of kid's books. Thank you for reminding me of why I illustrate in the first place! )
