From the Mouth of Bayla #24 : someone else

Today, mom and I went on a walk to Dow’s Lake. We also went to see Sylvester’s family .

They are doing really well!

His sibling (who was also in the accident) is adapting to his new way of walking and swimming.

While we were watching, a man came on a bike with a little bag. He took his bag off his bike, opened his bag and took out a small sack of seeds. He started to tell us about  his job (wild animal care) and we started to tell him about Sylvester. Meanwhile, he was taking out handfuls of seeds.

It’s really nice to know someone who goes to Dow’s Lake two times a day to take care of a duck and his family.

From the Mouth of Bayla # 22 : One less family member

I know that it sounds like a human in our family died but sad to say ;it was Sylvester. He died yesterday night after he had been given medicine. I was so happy when we had saved him and we were all convinced he would NOT die but we were wrong. Now were all crying. Sylvester I just wanted to let you know I love you, we ALL love you. Sylvester, we will always love and remember you, Sylvester there will NEVER be a duck like you. All our love, Bayla, Lucy, Andrea & Mark. :-)

From the Mouth of Bayla #21: a new pet

Plop! A poor little duckling keels over in the water, he is starting to sink, little by little. Mom, wishing, that duckling could come to the shore, somehow. Whoosh. the current pushes the poor duck to the shore. Mom picked him up and brought him home!!!!! Then mom picked us up from school and told us that we had an adventure and she told us that “I’ll only tell you if we don’t get to the house in time.” So we got to the house and little Sylvester was sitting in his water dish.

From the Mouth of Bayla #19: A Thank You Gift

Two weeks ago,  we decided that the counselors did too much and we do too little, so we made them pillow cases. When we delivered them we were surprised to see that all the counselors LOVED them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the Mouth of Bayla #18: My birthday party

In two weeks, we will be celebrating my birthday with my friends even though my birthday is in July.  The reason I am celebrating it in May is that everyone is away in the summer.

Here are some of the activities planned: scavenger hunt outside/inside,”Bunny Trail Dirt*” competition, flashlight tag and other really sweet games.

For dinner we will be having “make your own burrito night” followed by the Bunny Trail Dirt competition. I think we will have many rounds of flashlight tag,  but I think they will be around 9:00 to 12:00 (advice to self: be quiet during the rounds of flashlight tag because there is a preschooler next door and I do not think he wants to be woken up by some noisy best-friend grade threes, THOSE ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!!!!!!!!.)

* Bunny Trail Dirt is a mixture of all sorts of candies (eg: rockets, smarties, jellybeans, (gushers if you don’t mind a storm) some pop rocks, brown & white sugar andbits of chopped up cookie.)

From the Mouth of Bayla #17: Lee Edward Fodi

Our house has become a usual  stop for authors and illustrators, we’ve had two authors at our house in the last 3 months ( Lee Edward Fodi and Sheree Fitch.) Lee came over tonight and we had an awesome time with him (ex: we went for a walk with the dog to see the tulips and we had a BBQ.) Lee is also coming to my school on Tuesday. I can’t wait to see him again!

When we were on the walk with Lee  mom fell in a hole up to her crotch and then she said “@#$%!!!!!!!!!!”

From the Mouth of Bayla #16: impossible’s impossible

Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 7:00 am, 5 monk caught fire. Later that day, some friends of the fire victims delivered a flyer: MISSING CAT FROM FIRE. Sixteen days later, they found the cat, hiding in the basement of the house. He had survived the 8-hour blaze and the house being demolished. As they say, “cats have nine lives.”

From the Mouth of Bayla # 16: GNO

Every Thursday, Lucy and I have a program called GNO (girls night out) . It’s from 6:00 to 8:00pm. We have different activities every Thursday. Lucy and I have been to two sessions, this is what I can remember of our schedule; we are going camping at Lac Phillipe, we are going swimming and we just did a cookie “Bake-off” and it was a tie ( I think our cookies were the best.)

Girls night out is really fun, not only because the activities really rock but also there are no boys to bug us.

From the Mouth of Bayla #14: the fire on monk

Yesterday, there was a fire on our street, it started at 7:00am and ended at 5:00pm. It affected six appartments there for it affected ten people. only one person was hurt, he slipped on the ice and was put in a neck brace. Our neighbour, Frank, discovered the fire. He was walking to work but he was late but somehow that was a good thing because he saw the fire and banged on the door and yelled FIRE!!! GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!!! Frank was still on the phone with the fire department when the fire fighters arrived. The fire started on the second-floor balcony and then spread onto the roof. luckily, everybody was safe and accounted for.

From the Mouth of Bayla #12: a complicated day

Today I had a complicated morning/afternoon.  First I went to IKEA, then I tried to call my friend, then my Bubbie & Zaidie came and then I went outside to play my violin. When I was playing my violin I saw my other friend and I went to play on my bike with her and then I went back inside and now I am here writing this post.

From the Mouth of Bayla #11: port-a-cath person

Two nights ago, mom suggested to me that “tomorrow you could draw a face around my port-a-cath, because it kind of looks like a nose”. So, last night I drew the person. I was going to put 2 GIANT hairy nostrils on the bottom of the port-a-cath but mom wouldn’t let me. I can’t believe I did the person without hurting mom. Today I woke up and  the port-a-cath person was smudged.

From the Mouth of Bayla# 10

Today, I did 2 presentations. One was a book talk* and the other was an oral presentation. The oral presentation had to be on “Mon activite prefere*”. I did mine on the violin.

I’ve been doing the violin for 5 years approx.  Playing the violin takes my mind off of any bad thing that is going on because playing the violin really takes you into your own little world.

For the last few days, I’ve been playing to take my mind off of dad being in Calgary.

For the last few months, I’ve been playing to take my mind off of the fact that mom has cancer.

*a book talk is a talk about one of your favourite book.

*mon activite prefere means “my favourite activity.”

When your hair grows back,  it’s really fuzzy, so you might want too keep shaving it until it gets back to normal, or if you really want fuzzy hair then that’s okay but it won’t be very warm.

When you are in chemo, you should try to stay away fron sicknesses because you could get sick and it’s not just ” Oh it’s just a normal day of lying in the bed with the flu, I’ll get over it soon.”, it’s  serious.
